This is my I’ve-been-having-Braxton-Hicks-contractions-off-and-on-and-ZOMG-they-hurt face.
Also? I have NO idea why, but my pictures are coming out super dark in our new bathroom despite if I change the settings, reduce the amount of light, change my position, etc.
How far along? 22 weeks
Total weight gain/loss: + 10 lbs. Ahem. I’m rapidly making up for the no-gain weeks that happened earlier in the pregnancy.
Maternity clothes? Almost completely. Some non-maternity shirts still work but it’s getting close to being a full-time thing.
Stretch marks? Back with a vengeance.
Sleep: Some days are better than others.
Best moment this week: Adrianna got to feel her baby brother kick this week! It was one of the sweetest things EVAR!!! Brock won’t sit still long enough to feel anything . . .
Worst moment this week: Braxton Hicks contractions. Which? I don’t really remember having this early with the first 2 kiddos but each pregnancy is different, right? And they didn’t lead to anything (thank God) but they were a painful reminder of what’s to come in 18ish weeks.
Movement: Getting more and more frequent and especially at night. Homeboy likes to hold 9pm raves. BYOB.
Food cravings/aversions: The smell of cooking chicken has been bothering me lately. No aversions to any particular tastes this week. No real cravings, either.
Labor Signs: Nada.
Belly Button in or out? Most definitely in.
What I miss: Energy. And wine.
What I am thankful for: That I made it another week successfully through this pregnancy! That we are (mostly) moved into the new place and can start to make it our own. That this baby is healthy. That the weird dreams have stopped.
What I am looking forward to: Our next appointment (on Tuesday) which will yield us our SEVENTH ultrasound. It’s a fairly long story, but yeah. We’ve seen this kid more times than the other 2 pregnancies combined.
Milestones: Crossing the halfway point which is equally scary and exciting. Just 2 more weeks until we hit the point of viability!
Symptoms: shedding hair, exhaustion, sore boobs, heartburn, burgeoning belly.
Technical baby news:
All of Baby’s organs have been fully formed for some time, but they’re continuing to grow in complexity. The kidneys and pancreas of a 22 week old fetus are functioning, the skin is less transparent and, if your baby is a boy, the testes have begun to descend into the scrotum But one of the most impressive developments is taking place in the brain, where the germinal matrix is rapidly manufacturing brain cells, bringing your baby’s senses
to life and forming the foundation of his personality.
Your 22 week fetus weighs just under a pound and is about 7 ½ inches from crown to rump, or 11 inches from crown to heel. As your baby grows longer, your caregiver may begin to measure him from the top of his head to the bottom of his feet, but keep in mind that ultrasounds and physical manipulation are not exact sciences, and it can be tough to determine just how long your baby is before he makes his first live appearance. If you did have a window into your baby’s underwater world, you would be able to see that his lips, eyelids and eyebrows are more pronounced this week, and his tiny fingernails are complete. His skin has a fair amount of wrinkles, as his slim figure is just beginning to accumulate some fat under the thin skin.
